Meta Length Checker

Check if your page title and meta description are the optimal length in characters and pixels for Google search results.

Keep your title and meta description the right length

The Meta Length Checker measures your page title and meta description in both characters and approximate pixel width, and tells you whether they fit within Google's recommended display limits. Because search engines truncate snippets that are too long, checking length before you publish helps ensure your full message and keyword are visible in the results.

Recommended limits

  • Title tag: aim for around 50-60 characters so it is not cut off on desktop.
  • Meta description: aim for around 150-160 characters for a complete snippet.

Google actually renders snippets by pixel width, not just character count, which is why wide characters can push a short-looking title over the limit. This tool estimates pixel width as well as character count so you get a realistic picture of how your snippet will display.

Why length affects clicks

A truncated title can hide your main keyword or brand name, and a cut-off description can drop your call to action. Titles and descriptions that fit cleanly look more trustworthy and tend to earn more clicks. If a description is too short, you may be wasting space that could describe the page and attract the right visitors.

How to use it

Type or paste your title and description, watch the live character and pixel counts, and edit until both sit comfortably within the recommended ranges. Combine the Meta Length Checker with the SERP Simulator to preview the final snippet exactly as searchers will see it.
