How to Write SEO Titles and Meta Descriptions That Get Clicks
Your title and meta description are your free advertisement in Google. Learn how to write them so they fit, stand out and earn more clicks with free preview tools.
Two pages can rank in similar positions, yet one gets far more clicks. The difference is usually the title and meta description, the snippet searchers actually read before deciding where to click. Treat them as your free ad space.
Get the length right
Google typically shows around 50-60 characters of your title and 150-160 characters of your description. Go over and Google cuts you off mid-sentence, often hiding your keyword or call to action. Check both with the free Meta Length Checker before you publish.

Write titles that earn the click
- Put your main keyword near the front.
- Be specific: numbers, years and clear benefits work well.
- Avoid keyword stuffing; write for a human first.
- Keep your brand name at the end if it fits.
Write descriptions that sell the page
The meta description does not directly affect rankings, but it strongly affects click-through rate. Summarise what the reader will get, include the keyword naturally, and end with a reason to click. Every page should have a unique description.
Preview before you publish
Paste your title, description and URL into the Google SERP Simulator to preview exactly how the snippet will look on desktop and mobile, then refine until it reads perfectly.
